My work is an investigation of the symbols, people, and objects that have affected my subconscious, perceptions of growing up, and real life experience. I approach art making as research into thought, memory, and play. It is a study of metaphor through fantasy and authenticity. The ceramic medium is a vehicle for this investigation. Clay, like no other material, can be shaped, formed, printed, and drawn upon to take on any likeness that the artist desires. I enjoy its tactility by cutting and incising, ripping and tearing edges to reveal its natural characteristics. And then impose screen-printed images and fuse them into the surface of the clay through firing. This process, the ceramic process, is integral to my research. Making and firing, firing and making, the ongoing cycle of working with ceramic materials and the investigation of artistic ideas.
